Lucknow SSP Akhil Kumar has sought the Government’s nod to lodge an FIR against Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan, who has been charged with concealing certain properties owned by her husband Amitabh Bachchan in her affidavit filed along with her Rajya Sabha nomination.

The SSP said he had sought help from the Home Department to verify if any case related to the property in Barabanki was pending against the Bachchan family. “If any case has already been registered, then no other FIR is supposed to be lodged,” Akhil said.

A complaint from the office of Principal Secretary, Vidhan Sabha, RP Pandey, following recommendation of the Election Commission had alleged that Bachchan concealed facts related to the assets of her husband in Barabanki while filing her nomination for the Rajya Sabha in 2006.

Barabanki SP Praveen Kumar, when contacted, said no FIR had ever been lodged against any member of the Bachchan family.

A civil complaint related to a land was lodged with the Additional Commissioner which later was referred to the court.

The issue was closed after the family surrendered the possession of the land and the court endorsed the decision of the Bachchans, Kumar said.
