PUNE, JUNE 15: Police personnel here seem to be doing their bit to protect nature in all its splendour. A fine example of this is the transformation of the 40-acre area at the foothills of Ramtekdi, near the Armed Forces Medical College, from a barren dumping ground to an ornate surrounding.

The State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) has its base near the foothills of Ramtekdi and personnel of this group have been developing the area over the last one-and-a-half-year. The area now has a beautiful lake in the midst of an attractive landscape. The brain behind this transformation is SRPF commander Suresh Khopde.

A boating club has now been formed for the group, while a botanical garden is also being developed. Although the lake and the area is not open for public, Khopde said that very soon, school trips would be allowed. The garden will be inaugurated this week by State Director General of Police Arvind Inamdar.

Khopde boasts that the entire work was done with hardly any funds, but with only the shramdaan ofthe SRPF personnel.
