COLOMBO, July 21: Sri Lanka, relaxed with the knowledge that they are already in the final, are still keen about their match against Bangladesh and hope the rain Gods would relent and allow their last league tie of the Pepsi Asia Cup to be held tomorrow.

But the prospects of the match looks dim as the rains which have been lashing Colombo for the past two days, were still continuing in the evening.Skipper Arjuna Ranatunga is eager to have a first-hand report on the strengths and weaknesses of the latest international entrant to limited overs cricket.

Sri Lanka, in its inconsequential match, is likely to try out reserves Dulip Liyanage and Upul Chandana in place of speedster Chaminda Vaas and spinner Muttiah Muralitharan.

Bangladesh, on the other hand, is likely to stick to the eleven that played against Pakistan.

Bangladesh manager Tanveer Ahmed said he was happy with his sides’s performance against Pakistan, but would have been happier had Athar Ali, who made 80, scored a century.

“It would have brought great honour for Bangladesh. After all, a century in the first representative match of the country since the ICC’s recognition, would have been a great honour,” said Ahmed.

The good news for Bangladesh is that Athar Ali has recovered from his knee injury and would be opening the innings tomorrow.
