AMBALA, April 26: The Railway administration here is worried over the repeated incidents of thefts of “tail lamps” used in the trains. The tail lamp is a vital safety item. It has a red twinkling light and is fitted on the rear compartment of the train. Each piece cost about Rs 500 and is an important equipment for the guard of the train. A sudden spurt in the thefts of this important item has caused concern amongst the train guards.
Despite registration of several FIRs with the Government Railway Police here, the police are clueless. The railway administration here feels that there is some gang behind these incidents. Earlier, there were reports of stealing costly brake blocks and iron scrap from the trains and the railway yard. These thefts were made by a gang in connivance with the railway officials, it was alleged.
Gurudwara elections: The persons desirous of fighting the Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee member elections, can file their nomination papers in the offices of the District Development and Panchayat Officer, Block Development and Panchayat Officers, Tehsildars and District Revenue Officer at Ambala from 11 am to 3 pm with effect from April 25 to May 9, according to Deputy Commissioner Dheera Khandelwal.
Ambala distt second in state in holding eye camps: The Ambala district was placed at second position in Haryana in holding the Mega Eye Camps under the Programme for Eradication of Blindness. According to a press release issued here today, a record number of 4,073 eye operations were performed in the year 1997-98, registering 109 per cent increase against the target of 3,507 operations in the year 1996-97.
