Sudhir, Rakesh help Nirula’s win
Fine knocks by Sudhir (52) and Rakesh (50) helped Nirula’s prevail over Inter-Continental by 43 runs in the Coca-Cola inter-hotel tournament at Siri Fort.

Batting first, Nirula’s set a target of 197 runs to win in 30 overs. Nirula’s had lost six wickets. A third wicket partnership of 60 runs between Sudhir and Raj Kumar strengthened Nirula’s chances. Sudhir’s 52 runs came off 54 balls and had three boundaries, while Rakesh’s half ton came off 27 balls and had two sixes and four boundaries. Raj Kumar scored 31 hitting four boundaries.

Among the Inter-Continetal bowlers, Gerry and Shakar claimed two wickets each giving 28 and 30 runs, respectively. Chasing the total, Inter-Continental came back strongly with a quickfire half century by Arvind Kochar which came off 49 balls and had five boundaries. But the side started sliding down the moment Kochar’s wicket fell. Though Ajit Nayyar tried to offer some resistance and contributed 37 runs but he too was dismissed soon. Sudhir of Nirula’s was adjudged man of the match award for his feat.

Brief Scores: Nirula’s: 196 for 6 in 30 overs (Sudhir 52, Raj Kumar 31, Rakesh 50) beat Intercontinental: 153 in 26.5 overs (Arvind Kochar 50, Ajit Nayyar 37, Gerry 2 for 28, Shanker 2 for 30).

Sameer sparkles
An unbeaten knock of 81 by Sameer Bhatia helped Maruti Udyog thrash NTPC by 48 runs in the sixth Teri Cup tournament at Air Force ground (Palam).

Sudhir Kumar and MS Tyagi, who claimed two wickets each were the successful bowlers for the winners while Rajiv (2 for 23) was the main wicket-taker for the losers. Sameer Bhatia (Maruti Udyog) was declared man of the match.

In another match, Gaurav Jain (47) and Indranil Roy (40) helped ABB overwhelm Nokia by 31 runs.

Dharmesh of Nokia was the best all-rounder who made 67 and claimed two wicket giving 25 runs. It was Nokia’s bad luck as despite an impressive bolwing by Rajesh (4 for 30), its batsmen failed to achieve the target for victory. Dharmesh of Nokia was declared man of the match.
