Hick, Hussain explode as England win
Ashley Giles, pounded by the batsmen and pilloried by the crowd in his opening spell, returned to bowl bravely at the end and become a hero as England defended a large total with bulldog spirit. The SCG pitch, for so long a spinner’s haven has turned batsman friendly and Giles held his nerve to bowl tightly as Australia threatened to achieve another record chase after Graeme Hick had made his highest one-day international score.

Australian Open
Women’S world number one Lindsay Davenport and men’s number three Alex Corretja will serve up the early action on the first day of the Australian Open tennis tournament at Melbourne Park tomorrow.

Improve fielding
Former Australian cricket captain Bob Simpson, now a consultant coach to the Indian team, has said that with some “fine tuning ” India should be ready for the next World Cup in May. Simpson said, “Provided we improve our fielding and put a little variety into bowling, we have an excellent chance to win. The batting is very capable. ”

MP win
Just a couple of days ago, Jai Prakash Yadav was being considered for a berth in the Indian probables list for World Cup by the national selectors. Eventually, he was rejected. Putting aside his frustrations, Yadav produced a sterling performance, which included a hattrick, to take Madhya Pradesh to their maiden Wills Trophy title victory at the Eden Gardens today. Madhya Pradesh beat Bengal by 32 runs.
