MUMBAI, January 23: Akhil Behl, 20, who won the National men’s title at Chennai earlier this month, was felicitated by the Indian Squash Professionals (ISP) last night at the Bombay Gymkhana. Behl, who was presented with a salver by Raj Singh Dungarpur, president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, was also extended sponsorship support to play Inter-Club and exhibition matches in Dubai by a non-resident Indian Shyam Bhatia.

Behl represented India in the World Men’s Team Championship in Cairo in 1995. In the same year, he emerged as the national junior champion and pocketed the Perrier Asian Junior Satellite in Singapore.

The Maharashtra team members, who won the Inter-state squash championship at Calcutta, were presented with mementos by the president of the Bombay Gymkhana, former badminton player Gautam Thakkar.

Chandrakant Pawar was also honoured on the occasion for reaching the professional final of the national championship for the 16th occasion.
