The election branch of the district collectorate have lined up special drives for issuing photo identity cards for voters for the twenty two assembly constituencies in the city. The branch has already initiated the drive in the 10 assembly constituencies in the rural areas from December 16 with the help of digital cameras while for the eleven constituencies in the city, the drive would commence from December 22. “This is a special drive and those whose names are in the voters list can just approach the offices of the respective constituency offices with two photographs,’’said deputy election officer Varsha Untwal for the city areas. The election department has also deputed booth level officers to hold door-to-door survey and give the applications for the photos of the voters. The officers are giving the Epic 001 B application for the photos of the voters. With 57 lakh voters from Pune district, the election department has collected the names of 30 lakh voters and have yet to reach out to nearly 27 lakh voters. “We want maximum coverage for these drives,’’she added. Besides this drive, special drives will be held on second and fourth Saturday and Sunday till March 1 to make the campaign effective. The voters can go to their respective polling booths and these officers will be in the same premise for collecting the forms,’’said Untwal. With election commission issuing the date of issual of photo identity cards from February 14, the aim of the election branch is to complete the scanning of the forms and storage of data and start giving out the cards. While for the rural areas the drive started on December 16 and will continue in all the constituencies. Here the election branch is using a digital camera to get the photos of the voters. “For the rural areas, the citizens have to produce photo identity card proof documents for the issual of these voters cards as the photos will be taken by us,’’said Untwal.
