Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee is likely to give his ruling on notices of several members for breach of privilege against Indian Ambassador to the United States Ronen Sen on Wednesday.

Sources indicated the issue is likely to be referred to the Privileges Committee headed by senior Congress member V Kishore Chandra Deo. Members from several parties, including the Left, had given notices last month following Sen’s “headless chickens” remark in an interview.

The ruling was expected on Friday, but the disruption of House proceedings came in the way. The Speaker had told the members last week that he will “take a decision” on the matter soon. “I have got replies (from Sen and the Ministry of External Affairs),” he had added.

Minister for External Affairs Pranab Mukherjee has already made a statement in Parliament expressing “regret” over Sen’s alleged remarks, while Sen has since issued a clarification saying his “tactless” reference was to “some of my media friends” and not parliamentarians.
