India and Spain will sign a Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty on criminal matters during the visit of Spanish PM Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero beginning July 2.
Zapatero’s visit will be the first Government head level visit from either side in 13 years and comes on the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The other MoU to be signed between the two countries include that of institutionalising political dialogue.
The Spanish PM will be accompanied by Minister for External Affairs and Cooperation Miguel Angel Moratinos, and a senior official delegation comprising over 50 senior Spanish businesspersons.
Zapatero will call on Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, PM Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi. Besides holding official meetings in New Delhi on July 3, Zapatero will also be visiting Pune and Mumbai. He will address the India-Spain Business Meet in New Delhi.
Indian apex business associations CII, FICCI and ASSOCHAM will host a business lunch. In Pune, he will visit Indo-Spanish joint venture companies. In Mumbai, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra will host a dinner for the visiting dignitary.
