Sourav Ganguly is getting ready for his Northamptonshire county stint, but his heart is on the Caribbean islands. Here today, the former India skipper quietly went about knocking the ball around in nets at a deserted Eden Gardens, the first time in over two months he has done so.
But even as he negotiated the ‘attack’ from a couple of rank medium pacers he was looking ahead. “I’ve been practising hard. I’m looking forward to the Test series in the Caribbean. Let’s see,” he said.
As for watching his successor bat at Sabina Park, he did droop words of praise even if he didn’t quite sit through the match. “It’s good that the Indian team has won. The tour has just begun, and there’s a long way to go,” Ganguly told mediapersons on his way out of the Eden. And what about Dravid’s match-winning century? The answer was somewhat curt: “Yes, he played a good knock.”
The next ODI will be played at the same venue on Saturday.
