Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee’s indisposition has put on hold key decisions including approval of the Tenth Five Year Plan, relief package for Gujarat riot victims and purchase of defence equipment such as radar.Vajpayee has been diagnosed with viral infection of the upper respiratory tract with sore throat, running nose and body-ache and has been advised rest for the next two to three days, said a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.It said Vajpayee was examined by a team of doctors for the second day today. ‘‘This has been diagnosed as viral infection. There has been some improvement in his condition. He has been advised complete rest for the next two to three days,’’ it said. This led to cancellation of all his engagements today, including Cabinet meeting where the Gujarat package was to come up. Yesterday, a special Cabinet meeting to approve the Tenth Plan was postponed and it was to be discussed today. Tomorrow, the Cabinet Committee on Security was to meet to approve purchases including radars and submersible vessels.His address to the Combined Commanders Conference of the armed forces today was also deferred. If he recovers in time, he may address the commanders on Saturday. He was also scheduled to receive former Japanese premier Yoshiro Mori and preside over the annual general body meeting of the Nehru Memorial Trust and Library today.
