Somdev Devvarman added another record to his cap with his second successive and 18th overall NCAA singles championship, becoming only the 13th player in the 124-year history of the tournament to claim back-to-back titles in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The top seed, representing Virginia, defeated Tennessee8217;s JP Smith 6-3, 6-2 in less than an hour at the Michael D Case Tennis Center to conclude his collegiate career.

Devvarman completed his collegiate career with a 158-27 singles record, which is highest in the school8217;s history. He was 88-6 over his final two seasons at Virginia. Devvarman concluded his career on a record 36-match winning streak.

All India Tennis Association secretary general Anil Khanna praised the youngster, and announced a 10,000 reward for his achievements.

8220;I will be speaking to Somdev, and the AITA will support all his endeavours,8221; said Khanna.
