No surprises here, Indian software exports registered a growth of 29 per cent to touch Rs 36,500 crore in 2001-02 as compared to Rs 28,350 crore in 2000-01, according to National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM). And the forecast for the next fiscal has also been kept near 30 per cent.

However, the star performer this fiscal is the IT-enabled services sector (ITES) which clocked a growth of 22 per cent, reflecting a growth of 71 per cent. ITES is also expected to add another 35,000 jobs this year. The contribution of software exports to India’s total exports has gone up to 16.5 per cent.

‘‘The industry fundamentals are changing, average on-site billing rate is down by almost five to seven dollars per hour, while offshore rates are down by about $10.’’ said outgoing chairman Phiroz Vandrevala.

Although NASSCOM is yet to come out with detailed data of region-wise revenues pattern, Phiroz Vandrevala said Europe’s contribution increased to 25 per cent from 23.5 per cent earlier.

Giving the outlook for year ended March 2003, he said IT services would grow at the same rate of 22 per cent, while it enabled services’ growth rate would come down to 65 per cent in 2002-03 as compared to 71 per cent in 2001-02.
