NEW DELHI, November 2: The Indian software industry has expressed serious concern over a bill in the US Congress which, if enacted, would adversely affect the country’s software exports to the United States.

The bill, seeking to amend the Immigration and Nationality act of US, would increase the financial and administrative costs of hiring Indian software professionals, according to the National Association of Software and Service companies (Nasscom).

"United states is the biggest market for Indian software exports. The increased burden placed on a US company when hiring an Indian professional would hamper the free flow of software trade between India and US," Nasscom executive director, Dewang Mehta, said.

In the event of the proposed bill being made into a law, the projected software export of one billion dollars to the United States is expected to be hit sharply. "India’s competitive advantage in software would be stifled," Mehta asserted.
