SURAT, March 25: In a bid to enter the Guiness Book of World Records, Lok Samarpan Raktadan Kendra (LSRK), a Surat-based NGO, has decided to organise a blood donation camp, on April 4, in which an estimated 6000 people would donate blood.

The camp, to inaugurated by film star Jitendra, will be held at Saurashtra Bhavan from 7 am.

“More than 4000 people have already given to us in writing that they would donate blood,” said Dr Jivraj Bhai Dhakhara, LSRK president, told reporters, adding that LSRK had purchased 16 brio 120 machines to segregate blood groups.

On the occasion, a centrally air-conditioned building of LSRK — constructed at a cost of Rs one crore — would be inaugurated, Dhakara said, adding that the 120-seating capacity hall will be given free of charge to organisations for holding educational and medical seminars.

According to Dhakhara, while all the blood donors will be covered under Insurance Scheme for one year, all the 30 blood banks of the State are expected to be present during the camp. The blood banks would later be provided bottles as per their requirement.

Disclosing that LSRK had adopted New Civil Hospital, where all poor patients will be given free blood, Dhakhara said so far LSRK has donated 25,000 bottles of blood to the needy.
