SURAT, JANUARY 27: Free cataract removal surgeries have claimed eyesight of six people while 40 others developed complications in Navsari district of south Gujarat.

According to Navsari district hospital sources, the victims were among about a thousand people who had undergone surgeries between December 7 and 30 at free camps organised at Vansda, Chikhli, Maroli, Limzar, Ambada, Gandevi and Bilimora in the district.

Some of the victims are under treatment at the hospital, the sources said.

In Surat, four persons had lost eyesight and 12 others developed complications during a free cataract removal surgery on January 1 and 2.

Over a dozen persons had lost vision in Maharashtra’s Sangli district after undergoing cataract-removal operation earlier this month.
