NASHIK, DEC 29: Six persons on a pilgrimage to Trimbakeshwar were killed and five others injured in a headon collision between a jeep and a truck on the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar road.

The pilgrims were from Khandwa (MP) and after visiting Shani-Shinganapur and Shirdi, were proceeding towards Trimbakeshwar in a jeep. Near Belgaon-Dhaga village, a dumper proceeding towards Nashik rammed into the jeep, dragging it over 60 feet on the road to a pit alongside.

Six persons, including the driver, died while five others were injured. The impact of the mishap was so severe that the engines of the truck and the jeep got entangled and the roof of the jeep had to ripped apart to extricate the driver and those sitting near him.

Traffic on the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar road was disrupted for over an hour due to the mishap. Local villagers rushed to the spot and helped in the rescue work.
