Siachen drama: Colonel says he believed Major

Commanding officer of Gorkha Battalion Col K.D. Singh today told a military court that he had recommended a gallantry award for Major Surinder Singh on the basis of the report submitted by the officer and was unaware that the Siachen Glacier encounters were fake.

Col Singh, deposing before Colonel says he believed Major’s report, unaware of fake kills the court for the second day in the first-ever Army open trial, said: ‘‘I believed in good faith what Major Singh was telling in his report. I could not have even dreamt that the report submitted by him was fake.’’

He said he recommended an award for Major Singh on the basis of the report submitted by the officer. Col Singh said it was impossible for a commanding officer to personally look after every forward post.
