Uttar Pradesh Government Railway Police (GRP) on Wednesday claimed to have identified the two suspects in the June-28 Shramjeevi blast that claimed 14 lives.

‘‘We have identified both the youths whose sketches we had released… we are cross-checking information collected during investigations,’’ Additional Director General of the Railway Police B K Bhalla told The Indian Express over the phone on Wednesday.

He added, ‘‘We will not disclose their names. Our investigation is in the right direction.’’ He said both suspects were from UP.

On the contrary, a release that was issued by Northern Railway (Lucknow), said: ‘‘According to the provisional findings of the commissioner appended with his preliminary report, the accident occurred due to an explosion caused by explosives materials being carried in the cabin area adjoining the toilet of coach number NF 98466, GS second from the locomotive of 2391 (up) Shramjeevi Express.’’

The release added that Bhupender Singh, Commissioner of Railway Safety (Northern Circle) held a statutory inquiry into the explosion in a coach of 2391 (up) Shramjeevi Express between Harpalganj and Koiripur railway stations.

Gitanjali Kame, the public relations officer of the Northern Railway said she had no details of the provisional findings.
