The 20th Queen Sirikit Cup Women’s Golf Championship will be held at Bombay Presidency Golf Club (Mumbai) from March 18 to 20 next year.
Briefing members of the Indian Golf Union (IGU) at Bangalore recently, IGU Ladies section convener Sarah Philip said 52 women from several countries would take part in the prestigious competition.
IGU president K Rajagopal expressed his inability to provide funds to the tune of Rs 10 lakh as there was no surplus in the budget for 1997-98.
The competition, according the Philip, will require an expenditure of rs 35 lakh. While granting “support and assistance” for the competition, Rajagopal assured Philip of raising funds through affiliated units to make a success of the event.
Chess tourney
The Bombay Chess Association will be conducting the Entrants’s Division Chess Tournament from August 5 at the Zandu Pharmaceutical Works Canteen, Sayani Road, off Elphinstone Road. The entry fee is Rs 60 and can be submi to DB Pulekar at the venue before August 4.
The tournament will be played over nine rounds of Swiss league and the top ten players from will be promoted to the Senior Division.
