Tamal shapes SRC victory
All-round performance by Tamal Dutta (52 and 3 for 53) and useful 41 by Ashish Thakore helped Shri Ram School PTA team prevail over Vasant Valley School PTA by 41 runs in a limited overs match at Vasant Valley ground.

Electing to bat, Shri Ram team scored 259 for the loss of seven wickets in 35 overs. Tamal Dutta (52), Ashish Thakore (41), Vikram Yadav (34), Kapil Bhalla (31) and Arun Singh (29) were the main contributors for the winners. Later, Anando Datta and Tamal Dutta took three wickets each giving 38 and 53 runs, respectively.

In reply, Vasant Valley failed to reach the target. Uday Katoch’s 57 run effort went in vain as the side was dismissed at 218 in 31.5 overs. Mohit (37) and Dubey (35) were the other main scorers for them. Dubey was the most successful bowler, who claimed 2 for the loss of 41.

Pune University outplayed Osmania University (Hyderabad) 3-2 in an inaugural match of All India Inter-University Squash Rackets (M) championship at St Stephen’s College Gymnasium. In another match, Jai Narayan Vyas Univ got walk-over against Guru Nanak Dev Univ (Amritsar) did not turn-up.

Results: Pune bt Osmania 3-2 (Arun Malik bt Kartic Reddy 9-4, 9-0, 9-5, P Sri Sai (Osmania) bt Sameer Taneja (Pune) 0-9, 10-8, 9-5, 9-4, Sameer Taneja bt M Ramesh 9-1, 9-5, 9-1, GV Raman bt Man Chitwan 9-6, 9-0, 9-7, Ashish Chopra bt Ashwin Reddy 10-9, 3-9, 10-8).

Anish impressive
A fine spell of bowling by Anish Suri of four wickets for the loss of 25 runs and Gautam Trehan’s 41 guided Hans Raj Model School triumph over Modern School (Barakhamba Road) by 23 runs in the Bro Dunne inter-school tournament at Mount St Mary’s ground. Anish Suri (4 for 25), Mayank Nagi (2 for 31), Gautam Trehan (2 for 15) were the wicket-takers for the winners while Radheshwar Dabur’s fine spell of four wicket for the loss of 38 wickets could not save the losers.

Ministry football
Ministry of Finance humbled Ministry of Urban Affairs and Employment 4-0 in the first semi-final of Inter-Ministry league-cum-knock-out football tournament at Vinay Marg sports complex. Sisir Biswas scored a hat-trick in the match. This was his second hat-trick of the tournament.

CRPF triumph
CRPF overwhelmed Western Air Command 26-24, 25-15 in an inaugural match of first DK Mudgal memorial volleyball tournament at Shivaji College court.

In other matches, Northern Raliway prevailed over Shivaji College 25-16, 25-15; Prashant Club humbled Air Force 25-17, 25-19; Northern Railway outwitted Western Air Command 25-13, 25-15 while in the last match of the day Air Force defeated Dhaka Sports Club 25-15, 25-21.

Volleyball tourney
The first Smt Godawari Devi Memorial Volleyball tournament (men and women) will be organised from Feb 18 to 21 at Jindpur village. Scribe bereaved
Mrs Rosie Sylvia, mother of Norris Pritam, Sports Editor of TVI, died this morning after prolonged illness. She was 75. Mrs. Sylvia is survived by one son and two daughters. The burial will take place at the Paharganj cemetry on Wednesday at 12 noon.

Park Royal win
Park Royal crushed Taj Air Caterers by 146 runs in the limited overs match of the Coca Cola inter-hotel tournament at Siri Fort.

Jyoti Prakash (46), Asheet Lamba (30) and Yazat (22 not out) were the top scorers while Edwin (4 for 19), Surender (2 for 18) and Asheet Lamba (2 for 10) were the successful bowlers for the winners.

Vijay Singh (2 for 33) and Ashish Lal (2 for 43) were the main wicket-takers for the losers. Only Dharmender was the highest scorer for Taj who scored 17 runs as Taj were didmissed at a paltry 55.

Akash, Dubey shine
An unbeaten knock of 67 by Akash and fine spell of bowling by SK Dubey (6 for 21) helped Gail triumph over Times Bank by seven wickets to reach the quarter-final of the sixth Teri Cup tournament at Nahar Singh stadium. In the second match, Sameer Bhatia (71), Rajneesh’s unbeaten 56 and superb bowling by Rakesh 4 for 25 enabled Maruti Udyog thrash Lucent Technologies by 145 runs. Akash of Gail and Sameer Bhatia were adjudged men of the match.

Collage in semisCollage Group defeated DS Group by 66 runs to enter the semi-final of the ninth BDM Challenge Cup tournament. Collage scored 180 losing nine wickets in 40 overs. UP Ranji player Satinder Yadav (64) was the highest scorer while Amit Malik (43) and Manu Kumar (28) were the other successful batsmen. Sanjay Gill rocked the opponents by claiming four wicket giving 14 runs. Adil Ahmed took three wickets for the loss of 17 runs. In reply, DS Group were bundled out for 112 in 33.4 overs. Rajiv Rathore (22) was the top scorer. Ravinder Bhandari was the most successful bowler who clinched two wickets giving 21 runs.
