Jeev Milkha bags golf title
India’s Jeev Milkha Singh birdied the third playoff hole to edge out Myanmar’s Zaw Moe and Taimur Hussain of Pakistan in a dramatic climax to win the $ 220,000 Lexus International golf today. European tour star Jeev, who had lost his three previous playoff encounters, holed from 14 foot after third round leader moe had virtually blown his chances by driving into the water off the tee.
Australia win
Australia swept to a 10-wicket victory over Zimbabwe after the home side’s second innings collapsed in a one-off Test today. Zimbabwe plummeted from 200 for two to 232 all out as the last eight wickets were snapped up in 24.5 overs on the fourth day at the Harare Sports Club. Fast bowler Glenn McGrath, with the second new ball, and off-spinner Colin Miller started the collapse before Shane Warne snatched three of the last four wickets without conceding a run in 13 balls.
Fleming shines
New Zealand were made to run the gauntlet as Karnataka fielded and bowled superbly on the opening day of the three-day fixture on Sunday. The home side showed the champion stuff they were made of as they had the visitors gasping for breadth within the first session of play this morning. Only a highly combative and determined century by skipper Stephen Fleming and his 105-run fifth wickets stand with Nathan Astle (58) saved the Kiwis the ignominy of being bowled out cheaply by a state side.
