The women shooters, led by Commonwealth Games multiple gold medallist Anjali Bhagwat, did the country proud as they won an unexpected team silver in the 10m air rifle event to keep the Indian spirits soaring.

Displaying a great skill and concentration the trioka of Anjali, Suma Shirur and Deepali Deshpande claimed the white metal with a total of 1187 points — the only silver lining on an otherwise gloomy day at the Games here today.

However, it was sheer bad luck that saw Anjali narrowly miss an individual bronze by a mere 0.1 point as she finished fourth. Suma came behind Anjali in the individual event with a tally 499.9 points. But the only consolation was that their performance was better than the existing Asian Games record. India had finished eighth in the last Games at Bangkok.
