The Pakistan Cricket Board has said it was expecting fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar to sign the central contract and send it from Australia later this week. “He (Shoaib) has conveyed to us he has no problems now signing the contract and he will fax a copy to us signed in the next few days,” a board official was quoted as saying today. The speedster was concerned with a particular clause that made it binding upon players to seek the permission and clearance of the board before signing individual sponsorship/endorsement agreements or accepting any commercial related activities.

Brother will make film on Cronje

JOHANNESBURG: Hansie Cronje’s movie-producer brother plans to make a feature film about the disgraced former South Africa cricket captain’s life. Cronje was banned from the sport for match-fixing and died in a plane crash two years ago.

Frans Cronje’s company is co-producing the movie which will start filming in 2005, the Out of Africa Picture Company, a partner in the project, said on Wednesday. It said a biography authorised by the family was also being written.

Latif banned for six months

KARACHI: Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif was banned for six months on Wednesday by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for conceding a domestic match while captaining his team Karachi. “The chairman of the PCB has taken serious notice of the breach of playing conditions by Rashid Latif and given his past record has decided to impose a fine of $250 on him and ban him for six months from all first-class cricket,” PCB spokesman Abbas Zaidi said. — Agencies
