CHANDIGARH, Feb 14: Shivalik Golf Course, Chandimandir defeated Chandigarh Golf Club by 16 points to retain the General Zoru Bakshi Cup in the gold tournament held here at the Shivalik Golf Course, Chandimandir.

Both Shivalik and Chandigarh had 25 teams each comprising of two golfers. Out of 19 matches played, Shivalik won 16 while Chandigarh took three. However, three contests were drawn.

Sandeep Sandhu of Chandigarh led the field with a superb four under 76. “It was a challenging course, which brought out the best out of me,” said jubilant Sandeep after he finished his round.

However, Lokender Malik of Shivalik, who is regular at the course finished a stroke behind the leader. “I missed easy putting which let me down,” said Lokender, who missed two-feet putt at 2nd and 14th hole.

Sandeep had birdies at 5th and 7th hole. Among the participants, there were more than twenty golfers, who were above the age of 65 years. Some prominent among them were Brig KM Tewari (retd) of Shivalik Golf Course and Col Avtar Singh (retd) of Chandigarh Golf Club.

Rural sports
The UT Sports Department is organising rural sports festival at village Dadu Majra on February 27 and 28. Apart from athletics, competition will be held in kabaddi (circle), wrestling and volleyball.

Entries close on February 22, with District Sports Officer, UT Sports Department in Sector 9.

Brigde tourney
Ordnance Cable Factory (OCF) Inter-Zonal bridge tournament will commence tomorrow at OCF Sports Club in Sector 29. The prize distribution ceremony will take place on February 18.
