Giving a new spin to the issue of migrants, the Shiv Sena has requested Rural Development Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh to sincerely implement the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGA) in Bihar to check the migration of people to other states.
Sena Rajya Sabha member and Saamna executive editor Sanjay Raut told The Indian Express over telephone that he had written a letter to Raghuvansh Prasad to this effect. “I have called upon him to ensure that the scheme is implemented in all areas of Bihar so that people do not have to leave their homes to seek employment elsewhere. He can provide more funds for Bihar, and we would have no objection,” Raut said adding the Sena would support any special measure the Centre may take to create more jobs in UP and Bihar.
“The blame for unending migration of Biharis to other states lies with successive rulers of Bihar who have kept the state backward and have failed to address basic problems of people. It is their sin,” Raut said, asking Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav “to come forward and own it up first”. “He has provided the most non-performing Government in Bihar for 15 long years and has failed to generate any employment. There was no development during his rule.”
Making a strong plea for giving priority to local population in employment, he said, “This right has to be acknowledged everywhere. We, for once, believe that if there is any job opening in Patna, it should go to somebody from there. You’ll let an outsider come and share food with you only if you can have your fill.” Maharashtrians must get precedence over outsiders in Maharashtra, he added.
