CHANDIGARH, Sept 6: Shashi Karan beat Arvind Noel 233-175 in the open billiards event in the ongoing YMCA Open Billiards and Snooker tournament which is being played at the YMCA Hall in Sector 11.

In the duel which lasted over an hour, Shashi displayed fine cue ball control to assert his supremacy in the meet. In the next round matches, Shashi, however, will have to face tough opposition from the likes of Manish Srivastva.

In another match Ajay Chandel moved into the finals of the handicap snooker event at the expense of Aman Bhasin whom he defeated 85-45, 49-66, 58-25, in the contest which lasted for over an hour.

The eventual winner took the first frame with some good pottings but Aman fought back strongly to level the score (1-1). In the decider, Ajay with fine cue ball control got into his rhythm to pocket the frame (2-1) and wrap up the contest.

Sameer Bhalla scored a 403-362 victory over Manav Dhawan to enter the semifinal of the open billiards event. In another match Manish did not face opposition in his 483-233 win over Sanjay Kaushal. Kakar also got past Lalit Mohan 269-170, to get a berth in the next round matches.

Railway authorities promptly took action, shifting passengers to other coaches and quickly extinguishing the fire.

A fire broke out in a coach of Amritsar–Saharsa Garib Rath Express at Sirhind Station in Punjab, but no casualties were reported. Railway officials quickly took action, shifting passengers to other coaches and extinguishing the fire. The train will depart to its destination shortly. The incident occurred at 07:30 hrs and is currently being investigated.
