Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy declared here today that he would not ‘‘sacrifice an innocent person’’, implying that he planned no action against beleaguered Industries Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty of the IUML, who is embroiled in an alleged sex scandal.
Chandy said the ‘‘law will take its own course’’. The UDF government, according to him, ‘‘will not protect the guilty. But such a situation should not be used for blackmailing innocents. Nor should it be used for character assassination of political leaders’’. Chandy said, ‘‘I will not sacrifice an innocent.’’
As for the damage to his ministry due to the scandal, Chandy said: ‘‘It is for the people to decide.’’ He also said the government was planning to bring in a legislation providing for a stringent punishment to those who attacked journalists.
