Around six to seven cases of divorce are registered daily in the Kathmandu District Court, only 10 per cent of which fall under the legal parameter.
The Civil Code of Nepal has specified legal provisions for divorce in cases of under-age marriage, domestic violence and when husband and wife have lived separately for 3 years with mutual consent, besides in cases when one of the spouses contracts an incurable sexually transmitted disease.
Other premises for divorce include illicit sexual relationship, infertility and instances of coercion with wife, the National News Agency of Nepal (RSS) said.
Out of the 6-7 cases of divorce registered daily in courts, 90 per cent are either disqualified or settled under mutual understanding, RSS quoted a District Court staff Krishna Ram Koirala as saying.
Only ten per cent of the cases are found to come under the legal parameter, he added.
