The Committee of Secretaries of the Core Group of Economic Matters has approved the commerce ministry’s proposal to establish stringent standards to accelerate growth in export of services and make India a global services hub.
The broad principles outline quality improvement through certification and benchmarking them to international standards before putting out ‘Served from India’ brand in the global arena. The attempt is to get services from India instantly recognised and respected the world over through high standards. A separate Services Export Promotion Council would be set up that would identify the avenues and build brands.
Services contributes to nearly half of the country’s GDP and commerce minister Kamal Nath plans to leapfrog export earnings by unleashing India’s intellectual ability globally.
