MUMBAI, FEBRUARY 2: Share values spurted on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) today on foreign fund buying and follow-up purchases by speculators. Sensex gained 1.71 per cent or 89.38 points as sharp overnight gains in US markets and reports of positive foreign fund flows triggered a rally. The market was also enthused by the government’s announcement on Tuesday that it would relax rules on foreign investment.
Of the 139 specified shares, 92 recorded sharp to moderate gains while 45 showed losses and two held steady. Out of 92 gainers 14 shares hit the upper price breaker after exhausting the daily price limit. Tata Tea, however, hit the lower band.
The bse-200 and the dollex were quoted substantially up at671.34 and 262.44 compared with previous close of 654.77 and 255.84 respectively. The bse-500 index rose by 48.10 points to 2018.95.
Zee telefilms clocked the highest turnover of Rs. 506.55crore of the total volume of business of Rs. 4518.45 crore.
Other top traded shares were global tele (Rs. 407.54 crore),silverline (Rs. 381.04 crore), satyam computer (Rs. 337.61 crore) and Himachal futur (Rs. 324.35 crore).
The market leader zee telefilm edged up by three to 1242.Global tele improved by 21.15 to 1528.80, silverline by 42.70 to 975.80, satyam computer by 0.50 to 2755, acc by 10.40 to 192.90, bhel by 3.10 to 189, bses by 14.55 to 218.05, hll by 122.85 to 2428, HPCL by 13.60 to 184.15, hindalco by 54 to 852, itc by 3.20 to 712, L&T by 5.60 to 415.50, M&M By 39.50 to 533.50 and ranbaxy by 42 to 937.
However, Himachal futur declined by 34.25 to 980, castrolby 13 to 339, infosys tech by 26 to 7340, niit by 6 to 2669, novartis by 68.25 to 1246.75, ril by 2.45 to 336.80, SBI by 4.75 to 245.25 and TISCO by 1.70 to 140.05.
