MUMBAI, July 22: Pivotals recovered further on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) today on continued buying support by foreign institutional investors (FIIs) coupled with local speculative support.

The BSE sensitive index opened at 4161.94 touched the day’s high of 4189.82, and at the day’s low at 4145.65 before finishing at 4186.29, with a net gain of 32.01 points over the previous close of 4154.28. The BSE-100 index also moved up to 1818.37 against the previous close of 1803.40 with a net a gain of 14.97 points.

Brokers said the FIIs made considerable purchases in pivotals since last two days despite important political developments at the centre in the wake of the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) cases against the Bihar Chief Minister Laloo Prasad Yadav and consequences of the judgment on his bail application in the Patna Court. SBI recorded highest turnover of Rs 198.41 crore of the total volume of business of Rs 830.29 crore. Other active scrips were Reliance (Rs 107.31 crore), Tata Steel (Rs 78.99 crore), Tata Tea (Rs 53.93 crore) and ITC (Rs 51.74 crore).

SBI remained quiet at Rs 327.25, Reliance declined from Rs 349.50 to Rs 346.75 on profit taking. However, Tata Steel rose by Rs 6 to Rs 209.50, Telco by Rs 4.75 to Rs 400.75 and ITC by Rs 4.25 to Rs 508.50. On the NSE, share prices recovered on the last day of the current settlement on fresh buying by FIIs and select buying by investors for squaring up positions. The NSE-50 index closed at 1173.25, showing a recovery of 8.25 points.

Similarly, the Midcap index closed at 1275.60, displaying a gain of 6.95 points. The turnover on NSE was Rs 1,559.88 crore.
