The much-debated injury clause, proposed to be part of the BCCI’s new contracts, looks good for a run with senior pros agreeing.

Fresh contracts are to be drafted in less than a month from now. Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Harbhajan Singh welcomed the move when they sat with the recommendation committee on the eve of the Ahmedabad one-dayer, it was learnt.

According to the new proposal if a contracted player gets sidelined due to injury for a substantial period of time (say four months), then his contract amount gets proportionately slashed. However, the system shows a bug when it talks of contracted players being dropped.

As first reported in The Indian Express, the injury clause, if introduced, could see dropped players walking away with full contract money, while those injured will face monetary penalty for no fault of theirs.

“The four senior players are okay with the plan, meaning the players have agreed. However, these are just recommendations, they need to be cleared by another committee that will be shortly formed by the Board,” a top BCCI source said.

It was also learnt that the Indian players have put forward a few proposals for consideration, some of which deal with the cricketers’ right to write columns in the media midway during an international engagement.

The source informed: “The players came up with a few suggestions that will be taken up for consideration later. Some of the proposals that those players discussed were really rational.”
