Coming out strongly in support of the Indo-US nuclear deal, the Shiv Sena on Wednesday lambasted the Left parties for opposing the agreement that “everyone believes will benefit India”.

Calling the Left parties “red monkeys”, the lead editorial in the Sena mouthpiece Saamna said, “All except the red monkeys believe that the deal with the US is going to benefit Hindustan.” It further said, “All agree that the agreement with America will get the country atomic energy and other technologies. The problem of power crisis would be resolved. But they (communists) are talking about Hyde Act as if they are atomic experts.”

As the Manmohan Singh Government depends on them for its survival, the Left parties are opposing the deal to please China, the editorial said.

“We have uprooted the red monkeys from Mumbai and Maharashtra, but they have got shelter in states like West Bengal, Kerala and Tripura and are trying to hold national polity at ransom,” the editorial stated, describing the communists as “China’s collection agents” who were posing a grave threat to the country.

It also criticised leaders like Sharad Pawar and Lalu Prasad for climbing the political ladder “by holding the tail of red monkeys”.

The Sena quoted national leaders such as Jawarharlal Nehru, Jaiprakash Narayan and Rajaji on how the politics of Communists was always against national interest. The editorial concludes with the remark that the politics of Communists would sink the nation.
