AURANGABAD, APRIL 11: Shiv Sena received a big jolt in the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation election bagging only 20 of the total 83 seats.

Sena-BJP had fought this election on their own strength. The BJP doubled its tally bagging 16 seats. Both Congress and Independents won 18 seats each. In the last election, Sena had won 38 seats and BJP 8.

Prominent candidates who had to bite the dust this time were former Mayor Rashid Mamu, BJP city unit president Atul Save, Shiv Sena city president Girjaram Halnor, NCP joint secretary Manmohan Singh Oberoi.

The key post of the Mayor is in the hands of the independents. BJP leader and former minister Haribhau Bagde said his party would try to forge an alliance with the Sena for the Mayor’s election.

The final tally is:Total-83, SS-20, Cong-18, BJP-16, Independents-18, NCP-7, RPI (Athavale)-1, SP-2, Communist (M)-1.
