KAPURTHALA, April 23: Workers of Hindu Shiv Sena today burnt the effigy of Punjab Education Minister Tota Singh over the sudden hike in the fees of government aided private schools and deterioration in the standard of education in government schools.

The workers assembled at the local Snatan Dharam Sabha took out a procession led by Sena district president in the bazaars of the town and burnt the effigy of the education minister in the district courts. The workers also held a rally and criticized the government for paying no attention to education.

They also submitted a memorandum to SDM N S Baath to be submitted to the Governor in which they demanded immediate repair of school buildings, filling up of vacant posts and fixing the fees of government aided private schools.

70 cr for road repair: The Punjab Government will spend Rs 70 crore on the repair of 4,500 km of road length in the state by June this year.This was disclosed by Public Works Department Secretary P. Ram, here today, while presiding over a meeting of high officials of the department.

He said that a road length of 2,411 km would also be constructed during this year on which a sum of Rs 240 crore would be spent.

He further disclosed that 20 km of road length would be constructed in all the 117 Assembly segments.

Ram said work on four-laning of the Chandigarh Ropar-Kiratpur road was in progress on a war footing in view of the celebrations of 300 years of the Khalsa Panth.
