MUMBAI, April 26: Chief Minister Narayan Rane today said the Shiv Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party alliance was prepared to face simultaneous polls for the Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly, while blaming the Congress for imposing mid-term polls on the country.
“Though we are against early elections to the Assembly, if elections are held simultaneously, it will certainly benefit the Sena-BJP alliance. Rane said when Chief Election Commissioner M S Gill had proposed holding Assembly elections in the State alongwith polls in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, his government had protested. “Our contention was that democratically, we have been elected till March 2000 and as such, it will be against the principles of natural justice if our term is cut short without reason,” Rane said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde said in Aurangabad on Monday it would be a good idea to conduct elections to the State Assembly along with the Lok Sabha elections. “It would be worthwhile to discuss the possibility so that the sympathy wave generated for the BJP at the Centre can be encashed (sic)”, Munde said.
