MUMBAI, OCT 18: Select scrips led by cement and others rallied on the Bombay Stock Exchange today on fresh buying support. The new account started better and share prices showed volatile movements due to end-account squaring up on the National Stock Exchange (NSE).The BSE sensitive index (Sensex) opened at 4930.81, nearly 47 points higher from the previous close and moved between 4971.88 and 4853.83 before closing at 4930.69, showing a net gain of 46.67 points from the Friday's close of 4884.02. The BSE-100 index also recovered by 42.95 points to 2344.99 as against the previous close of 2302.04.Share prices fell initially on sustained selling pressure. However, prices recovered after foreign investors and institutions turned buyers. The fall of other Asian markets was discounted by Indian operators. Among the cement scrips, ACC and Larsen hit the circuit filter while Grasim, Zee, Satyam Computer, Global Tele, Sterlite, BHEL and ABB also attracted buying support.The upturn in the economy which has been continuing for the first six months of the current fiscal too fuelled buying activity, particularly in infrastructure stocks such as cements and automobile sectors. Reports that Pakistan had announced a military de-escalation along the border with India as a gesture to improve relations was another positive factor.Meanwhile on the NSE, share prices remained weak due to restricted activity as buyers more or less remained on the sideline in view of tomorrow's holiday for Dusshera. Mirroring the trend, the S&P CNX Nifty resumed better at 1454.90 and after toucning an intra-day high of 1461.45, declined to close at 1444.05, showing a fall of 10.50 over the last close of 1454.55.Satyam Computer remained top with a turnover of Rs 382.51 crore of the total volume of business of Rs 3256.20 crore. Satyam spurted by Rs 108.95 to Rs 1623.95 on speculative support. Rambaxy gained gained by Rs 13.65 to Rs 1121.35, Global Tele by Rs 47.05 to Rs 635.90, Zee Telefilms by Rs 370.80 to Rs 5006.35, Larsen by Rs 32.30 to Rs 436.55, Reliance by Rs 5.15 to Rs 237.80, SBI by Rs 5.50 to Rs 251, TELCO by Rs 3.95 to Rs 275.95 and TISCO by Rs 4.90 to Rs 146.90. However, Hind Lever dipped by 50 to 2440, ITC by 6.75 to Rs 810 and NIIT by 170.50 to 2630.
