Following the rape of a Swiss diplomat in New Delhi, Gujarat also reported two incidents in two consecutive days involving a 19-year-old woman in Ahmedabad and a 13-year-old girl in Vadodara.

The 19-year-old was raped late on Thursday by three persons when she was on her way to her mother’s house in Jivraj Park area. She is a resident of Talod village, Gandhinagar district. She was rescued by a patrolling party from Ellisbridge police near Phool Bazaar in Jamalpur. While the police party arrested three persons, two accomplices were held on Friday morning by Kagdapith police.

They have been identified as autodriver Kishor Thakor (23), his cousin Ranjit Thakor (26), Shanti Nai (25), Angrej Shekhawat — all residents of Behrampura — and Gopilal Meghva (18), a resident of slums in Danilimda.

According to her statement, she had hired an autorickshaw for Jivraj Park. But Kishor, the driver, told her that he would take her to Jivraj Park after dropping two men to Vatva. In Vatva, Kishor was joined by Shanti and the duo took the autorickshaw to Behrampura. Here, the woman was raped at a secluded spot.

She was again raped in Kankaria, where they were joined by Ranjit. Then, they went towards Behrampura when Ranjit and Kishor raped her enroute, while Shanti drove the vehicle, said the victim. Police say that Angrej, who joined them from Behrampura, was present but was not involved.

After having raped the victim for the second time, they were caught by a police party near Jamalpur crossroads.

In the Vadodara case, the 13-year-old girl was abducted on Wednesday night in Karelibaug, taken to a flat and raped. The five persons arrested in the case were remanded to five-day police custody on Friday.

Medical examination of the victim confirmed the sexual assault. The girl, a Class VII student, had gone to buy medicines for her ailing father at around 6.30pm. Two youths — Mushtaq and Javed — sitting near the chemist offered to take her to Fatehganj to buy medicines.

They along with friends, Devang Mehta and Malhar Patel, raped the girl at the Ellora flat of another friend.

Mushtaq was caught by police near Fatehganj petrol pump after he dropped the girl there at 1.30am.

DCP (North) Kesarisinh Bhati said Mushtaq tried to flee but was caught. On interrogation, he revealed the names of the others who were arrested.

Police say the girl had disappeared from her house on July 7 this year also. She went missing at 6.30 pm on July 7 and was found at 5 am the next day at the same petrol pump where she was found on Wednesday night. The girl’s parents had then informed the police, who entered the case in their records.

Another FIR, for the July incident, has been lodged and the police are on the hunt for one Nilesh Thakor and Ramaben Patel.
