CHANDIGARH, July 28: The Punjab and Haryana High Court in its further hearing today adjourned the matter pertaining to demolition of two shops in Sector 24, which had been carved out on a road, now required for implementing one-way traffic in the sector.

Justice Swatanter Kumar, while hearing the plea of the shop-owners, directed that the shops be removed till August 3 and compliance report be supplied to the court accordingly. Earlier, the counsel for the shop-owners and Chandigarh Administration had been seeking adjournment of demolition on the plea that they had already moved the Supreme Court against the HC orders.

After hearing the counsel, the judge ordered that the structure be removed by the next date of hearing, by which time their appeal before the Apex Court would also be heard. The judge had earlier ordered the demolition of shops till Thursday, but the same was modified after hearing the counsel.

In its judgment pertaining to traffic management and pollution in the city on July 9, the court had ordered immediate demolition of these shops. The same was, however, not complied with by the Chandigarh Administration on the plea that it wanted to move the SC.
