Pakistan has launched an intensive probe into the alleged role of its scientists in Iranian and Libyan nuclear programmes, after three detained scientists admitted that certain members of the country8217;s nuclear establishment might have 8216;8216;unauthorised8217;8217; contact with foreign nationals.

Three recently detained scientists disclosed that certain scientists of the country8217;s top nuclear establishment might have breached the strict export control procedures by making 8216;8216;unauthorised and irresponsible8217;8217; contact with foreign nationals, The News, quoted officials as saying.

As per the report, some scientists collaborated with a 8216;8216;Dubai-based foreigner8217;8217; for financial favours, and investigations are on to discover their links with Iranian and Libyan nuclear programmes.

8216;8216;In the process, these individual nuclear scientists have been instrumental in leakage of information or components to foreign sources,8217;8217; the detained scientists said. Recently, two scientists of Pakistan8217;s premier nuclear installation 8212; Khan Research Laboratories Dr. Farooq and Yasin Chohan, and two others were taken into custody for 8216;8216;debriefing8217;8217;, following US allegations that scientists collaborated with Iran to develop its nuclear programme.
