CALCUTTA, February 8: After an exciting third round, German Grandmaster Phillip Schlosser emerged as the sole leader with 3/3, leading by a slender margin of half point over a pack of ten others, including Nigel Short, Jan Ehlvest and Jonathan Speelman, with 2.5 points apiece. In today’s round, Schlosser beat the weakest of the overnight leaders, Phlipino Yves Ranola, while the others with 2/2 at the beginning of the round split points among themselves.

The day’s most exciting games were produced yet again by the youngsters. 17-year old Krishnan Sasikiran who is considered widely as the new Anand, played a very imaginative game with white to hold second seed Uzbekh Grandmaster Alexander Nenashev to draw , while Neelotpal Das, an upcoming youngster from Calcutta, beat Indian GM Pravin Thipsay, and World U-10 Champion P Harikrishna drew with GM Dibyendu Barua.
