NAGPUR, May 26: A state-level convention of SC/ST employees will be held at Nashik on May 31 to discuss the problems arising out of the new policy of reservation and promotions to SC/ST employees.Addressing a press conference, office bearers of Confederation of the SC/ST Organisations alleged that the state government has not only failed to fill up the backlog of reserved posts in government service but also furnished false information to the national commission for scheduled castes. The state government has decided to implement new reservation policy based on a court judgement in "Sabharwal vs Punjab government case". According to them the recruitment of SC/STs in state government services would be adversely affected as a result of the new policy. They pointed out that the State Government had identified in 1989 that nearly 1.60 lakh posts reserved for SC/STs had remained vacant. A special drive to fill up these posts was launched in 1989. But only 5,000 posts were filled up in last 8 years and over1.50 lakh posts remained vacant. Even then the State Government informed the national-level Commission for the Scheduled Castes that only 12,000 reserved posts could not filled up, they alleged. Similarly, the new policy in respect of promotions would also affect the SC/ST employees and officers. These issues would be discussed at the Nashik convention, the office bearers said. The press conference was addressed by Shelare, Patil, R V Narnavare and others.
