Pakistan Supreme Court has hauled up the authorities for registration of “dubious” cases against those arrested last month from the radical Lal Masjid complex, which was the scene of a bloody military operation against the militants.
The apex court, which was conducting a suo motu proceedings in a case of extra-judicial killings during the Lal Masjid operation, took notice of registration of “dubious” cases against those arrested from complex.
The two-judge bench, comprising Justices Abdul Hameed Dogar and Faqir Muhammad Khokhar, reprimanded the authorities producing bogus supplementary report in the court.
It directed Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Raja Irshad to have meetings with the ‘legal aid committee’ to halt discrimination against the uninvolved people.
The DAG submitted a report with the bench admitting that some people were implicated in criminal cases through bogus supplementary report, the Daily Times said today. The court sought more information in this regard.
The court also ordered the National Police Bureau Director General (DG) Shoaib Suddal to submit a report on DNA tests of those killed during the operation to identify them.
