Foxed by an online form allegedly filled up by some pranksters, State Bank of India has called the Father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhi to attend its pre-examination training programme.
The authorities of the Sabarmati Ashram here were surprised when they received a letter from SBI’s Central Recruitment and Promotional Department of Mumbai in the name of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.
The bank authorities have called Mahatma Gandhi to remain present for the training camp for bank clerks at A G Teachers Institute of Ahmedabad, organised for scheduled caste and scheduled tribe candidates for a week to prepare them for taking examinations.
“This seems work of some pranksters. Nowadays it has become a fashion to play pranks on the name of celebrated leaders,” secretary of the Sabarmati Ashram Amrutbhai Modi said.
“Or somebody might have done this to check the working of a bank in an attempt to expose them,” Modi further said.
The Ashram received the letter on last Saturday. “We have written a letter to the SBI regarding the matter,” said Modi.
SBI officials said they have received 25 lakh online applications and had decided not to check them manually at this stage.
“This seems to be a mischief played by some pranksters. If they would have filled the form in the name of Lord Krishna or Jesus Christ it would have been accepted by the computer,” bank official added.
