CHANDIGARH, Nov 6: Satnam Singh won the gruelling 10,000 metres race in the men’s section in the 30th Ropar District athletic meet held recently at SAS Nagar. Kanwaljit Singh and Jatinder Singh were second and third respectively.

Kanwaljit, however went on to bag gold medal in the 1,500 metres race. Baldip Singh and Nirmal Singh got the second and third positions.

A rally by actor-politician Vijay in Velusamypuram ended tragically with 40 deaths in a stampede. Non-political workers gathered to see the superstar, but exhaustion, heat, and poor planning caused chaos. People collapsed, ambulances couldn't reach, and police presence was inadequate. Vijay's team ignored instructions, and the narrow roads and insufficient crowd control added to the tragedy.
