PUNE, Feb 22: Chetak Sports Club’s best came too late as their two goal spurt, well into the second-half, remained a goal short eventually, as they went down to 3-4 to Falcon Sports Club, Pimpri in a Group `A’ PDFA I-Division tie at the Ammunition Factory Stadium, today.

A brace by Satish Iyer (45th & 56th min) and a goal each by Shreejit Ravindran (17th) and Shanub Nair (30th), who netted off a penalty-kick, scored for Falcon. Likewise Chetak had Chetan Chavan (32nd), Amit Navalli (74th) and Rahul Kad (79th) account for their tally.

The game was a case of missed chances for Falcon, while their opponents, who were playing their second match on consecutive days, seemed bottled when it came to put their best foot forward.

Chetak’s downfall was their defence who were often caught wanting, owing to Falcon’s speedy attacks particularly from their wingers Shreejit (left) and Rajiv Raj on the right. Falcon, making full use of one such situation, caught defender Ravi Padiyar on the wrong foot. Shreejit, picking up a rebound, after Satish attempted, slammed past the hapless ‘keeper Varun Khanwalkar.

The second goal was an unnecessary foul committed by Ravi, who after being beaten by the speedy left-winger Shreejit pulled him down inside the box leaving referee Nandu Angirwal with the only option of pointing to the spot. Shanub stepped up converted. However, two minutes later Chetak pulled one back when Kartik Mandrekar’s chip from the right, saw Chetan utalise the lethargic defending by Louis Swamy, and score past Nazir Sayyed.

Changing ends, Satish made the score 4-1 after 56 minutes. His first strike came when Prasad Nair, picked up the keeper’s kick a couple of yards into the Chetak’s half on the left, and chipped well for Satish. With the defence beaten, and the ‘keeper leaving his charge, Satish dribbled past the ‘keeper and score. Later, medio Rahul Lohar, moving up solo, beat Rohit Sashtrabudhe and Vijay Deshmukh, with a good change of pace. Curling the ball well Satish at the other end scored.

Chetak fought gallantly thereafter and pulled two goals back first by Amit who utilised a mix-up between Rahul and Mahesh Iyer and later a Rohit lob from the left had Rahul Kad on the right finish, however, that was all that Chetak could manage.
