Sangh Parivar cadres are intimidating minorities in Tamil Nadu threatening to lodge complaints against them under the newly legislated Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Forcible Conversion of Religion Act, Dr V. Dev-asahayam convenor of the Anti-Conversion Protest Committee, has alleged.

Devasahayam was talking to mediapersons here yesterday, after addressing a meeting on ‘Ordinance on Conversion and Human Rights’ organised by CSI Madras North Area Council and Diocese of Madras.

When asked to spell out his allegations in specific terms, Devasahayam alleged: ‘‘In several recent instances Christian teachers have been threatened that complaints would be lodged against them alleging that they were attempting to convert students.’’ He also said the struggle against the act would be expanded to the district level. A state conference would be held over the issue on December 10, he said.

Speaking at the meeting, Frontline editor N. Ram, described the law as ‘reactionary, anti-secular and anti-democratic’. He said the Governor should have given a serious tho-ught before giving assent.
