Describing the action against VHP general secretary Pravin Togadia as a ‘‘sinister political conspiracy’’, RSS Sarsanghchalak K.S. Sudarshan came out in support of him and vowed to launch a ‘‘massive movement in the state.’’The unusually strong statement by Sudarshan signals a show-down between the RSS and the Congress government in Rajasthan in the near future. Sources disclosed that Sangh Parivar leaders in Rajasthan met at Jaipur this evening to draw a blue-print for a joint offensive against the state government. The Sangh, according to sources, suspected that the action against Togadia was rooted in New Delhi rather than Jaipur, considering the vicious campaign which he had been carrying out against Congress chief Sonia Gandhi for over a year.According to them, Gehlot was not the one who would go in for combatant politics. Therefore, sensing wider ramifications of the move against Togadia, the Sangh felt that it was time to step in.Sudarshan pointed out that Togadia was first arrested for violating the ban imposed on distribution of tridents. ‘‘This ban, itself, is patently illegal and unconstitutional,’’ he said, maintaining that ‘‘he ought to have been released immediately.’’ However, the state government, ‘‘betraying its ethical and vengeful attitude, slapped fresh charges of sedition subsequently under Sections 121A of IPC with the express aim of denying freedom’’ to Togadia.‘‘The fact that the government had to hastily retreat and withdraw the charges imposed under Sections 121 of IPC confirms its malicious intentions, he added.
